Originally Christ Church at Weston Point, UK (built in 1841), was said to be the only church in Europe to stand on an uninhabited island. That was because the access to the church was regulated by the movement of lock gates. Today there is a bridge but the church is no longer in use. It was closed after celebrating its 150th anniversary in 1991.
