Cobweb Bridge

Cobweb Bridge

Sheffield, United Kingdom (GB)
The Cobweb Bridge is located in the city centre of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, near the disused Sheffield Victoria Station.

It was the solution to a difficult design problem - how to pass the riverside cycle-walkway (Five Weirs Walk) under the massive Wicker Arches viaduct and at the same time link one bank of the River Don to the other. Without the bridge, the footpath would have had to make a one mile detour.

Designed by Sheffield City Council's Structures Section, the entire 100 metres long bridge is suspended on a web of steel cables secured to the underside of the Viaduct, hence the name. The theme is completed by large steel spiders concealing the lighting on the ceiling.

The bridge was completed in 2002.
