The Cnam (Conservatoire national des arts et métiers) is a public institution whose vocations are scientific, cultural and professional. It has a special status (Grand Etablissement). Under the supervision of the Ministry of National Education. It fulfils 3 missions :
* professional training for adults
* technological research and innovation
* dissemination of scientific and technical knowledge.
The Cnam is an integrated network covering the whole country it consists of some 150 training centres, in both mainland France and French overseas departments and territories, serving 28 regional centres. Its vocation is to meet the training needs of individuals, businesses and organisations, at grass roots level. Half of all Cnam students, i.e. 40,000, are registered in the provinces.
