The Convair 990 (circa 1961) was the world's fastest airliner in that era. The aerodynamic pods on the trailing edge of the wing were supposed to help speed.

The plane just south of the 990 appears to be a De Havilland of Canada, DHC-4 Caribou. Got to ride in these several times in the Army.
