David Crosby's House

American musician David Crosby’s house was an adobe ranch house in the Santa Ynez valley, near Santa Barbara, California. He lived here with his wife, Jan, and their horses, at the time of his death in January 2023.

David Crosby’s net worth was $10 million at the time of his death. He is best known as a member of the bands the Byrds, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Though the bands sold over 35 million records combined, he was forced to sell the rights to his music catalog in 2022 due to financial difficulties late in his life.

David Crosby was born in Los Angeles, California in 1964 and was raised in Santa Barbara. His father was an Academy Award-winning cinematographer and a descendant of the wealthy New York Van Cortlandt family. After acting in some plays in his youth, he briefly studied drama at Santa Barbara City College, before leaving to focus on a career in music.

He formed and played with the Byrds throughout much of the 1960s, and formed Crosby, Stills, Nash after the Byrds’ breakup. CSN released their debut album in 1969 and remained together (along with addition Neil Young) for five years, though they would often reunite and continued to tour through 2006.

David Crosby battled with addiction to drugs and alcohol, resulting in several arrests and health problems throughout the decades. He had a liver transplant in 1994 and revealed in 2008 that he had type 2 diabetes. An automobile accident in 2015 resulted in a multi-million dollar settlement and was a major cause of Crosby’s financial distress.

David Crosby married Jan Dance in 1987. He had four children, including one with Dance. He was also the sperm donor for two of musician Melissa Etheridge’s children, including her son, Beckett, who died from opioid addiction in 2020.
