Recognized as the oldest medical facility in the country continuously used for medical education. Davidge Hall, named for Dr. John Beale Davidge the first dean and founder of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, was constructed in 1812 and designated as a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1997, It is considered to be the founding building of the University System of Maryland.
