Destroyed Iraqi Air Base

Destroyed Iraqi Air Base (Google Maps)

Burned down hangars, remains of a plane on the runway, bombed gun emplacements in the SW corner. Looks like the runways have piles of sandbags on them to make sure no one else uses them.

This is almost certainly the "H2" airfield. This was attacked on March 31, 2003. This airfield's anti-aircraft had fired on allied planes patrolling the "No-Fly Zone" prior to the 2003 invasion. It was also the source of SCUD attacks on Israel during the 1991 war.

Here's video of this field being bombed:

I don't know why the sandbags are there, but they appear to have been there when it was bombed. Seems to me like planes on a runway lined with sandbags aren't able to take off very well...

You can see the remains of the plane bombed at the end of the video, near the "crossroads" of the secondary runway and a taxiway that cuts through it.
