It's not a play structure but real aeroplane, a Douglas F3D Skyknight (later redesignated F-10) nightfighter.

It used to be both a play structure and a real airplane. I remember playing on it as a kid, crawling through the jet intakes and sitting in the cockpit. When too many kids got hurt playing on it, they repainted it and raised it on a pylon in 1963.
