Downtown Federal Way

Downtown Federal Way (Google Maps)

Internet-era boom town Federal Way, WA, was derided in 2001 by its local paper
for being the town of "strip malls and apartment complexes".

To illustrate this, here is an aerial photo of the main downtown area of the city.
In this shot alone, I can identify the main city mall (The Commons at Federal Way),
three supermarkets (one is just out of shot in a plaza at mid-bottom left),
a Wal-Mart, and 7 shopping centers:
Seatac Discount Plaza,
Seatac Village,
Center Plaza,
Pavilions Center,
Pavilions II,
Celebration Plaza,
and one more whose name I don't know. Plus, just out of shot to the right of center is another one, Gateway Plaza.

And this is only the downtown.

Interesting. Pavilions II was not finished in the GMaps imagery but was for YM. Meanwhile, Rainier Bank was being built in the YM imagery, it must have still been a BK in the GM imagery.
