This imposing mansion named Palais Montmorency was built in 1912 for the Duchess of Montmorency. At her death in 1927 the house was acquired by famous art collector, Antenor Patino. In the house, several decoration elements are of historical importance like 18th century panels, fireplaces and the painted ceiling of the great dining room by the French painter Henri Rousseau.

The 3,100 sqft Palais Montmorency was listed for sale for $136M USD in 2010.

The mansion is currently owned by Bashar al-Assad, the current President of Syria and Regional Secretary of the Syrian-led branch of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party. His father Hafez al-Assad ruled Syria for 29 years until his death in 2000.
