In 1832, 57 Irish immigrants were hired as laborers for railroad construction. Within six weeks, all were dead of cholera and were buried anonymously outside Malvern.
Recent archival and archaeological research supports the belief that most were violently killed.
"Duffy's Cut" refers to their massive digging through a hill for the railroad right-of-way.
