A 1.5 mile section of the north-south runway from Chase Field has recently been used for automotive and motorcycle land speed racing. People bring their vehicles here two weekends a year to test their top speed on the "Texas Mile". The current record is 257.7 mph by Sean Kennedy in a modified 2006 Ford GT.
