On June 27, 1976 an Air France Flight originating in Tel Aviv, Israel and carrying 244 passengers and a crew of 12 took off from Athens, Greece, heading for Paris, France. Soon after takeoff, the flight was hijacked by four terrorists. The hijackers eventually directed the flight to Entebbe International Airport in Uganda. The hijackers demanded the release of Palestinians being held by Israel, who refused to negotiate with the hijackers. They instead decided to undertake a military rescue mission to free the remaining hostages. The incident was dramatized in several books and movies.
