James Dolan worked at a Radio Shack in St. Petersburg, FL in 2004, when a gunman entered the store, killing two customers and shooting Dolan in the head. Dolan survived, but lost his eyesight.

ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" rebuilt his family's home, adding a voice activated system that helps him perform routine tasks around the house. The walls of each room in the house have a distinct texture to help him navigate. Original airdate - May 1, 2005.

Gross. They made no attempt to fit the house in with the rest of the neighborhood. Pull out and look at how this infill McMansion stands out like a sore thumb.

In its early days the show did a good job on renovations and cared about the impact the changes to the home wold have on aesthetics.

More recently they just routinely go in and bulldoze the house and build a monstrosity out of all proportion to what was there before. The "gasp" as the bus pulls away has become much more important than anything else.
