Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II

The A-10 Thunderbolt, also known as the Warthog, was developed during the Viet Nam war to provide close air support to ground troops, and is still in service to this day. The Air Force "brass" would like to kill it in favor of newer flashier and more "sexy" aircraft, but the US Congress said "back off". The A-10 is heavily armored to be able to take ground fire, and is well know to be able to completely lose an engine (as in the engine takes rocket fire and falls off) and still be able to handle well enough to make it home. With a variety of upgrades and wing replacements, the A-10's service life may be extended to 2028.
