First kindergarten school

Watertown, Wisconsin (WI), US
In 1856, Margarethe Meyer Schurz began what would be the first kindergarten class in the nation. She taught young children through the use of arts and crafts, games, and music.

The building was moved from it's original location in 1956 to the grounds of the Watertown Historical Society's Octagon House. The interior of the school house depicts the scene of a class in session.
