The Flag of the Green Mountain Boys began as a regimental flag used by the regiment of the same name. The men were led by Ethan Allen and hailed from the New Hampshire Grants (present day Vermont). Several companies were instrumental during the Revolutionary War in battles such as the capture of Fort Ticonderoga, Hubbardton and Bennington.

The flag was later used by the Vermont Republic.
