Fort d'Estrées

Fort d'Estrées

Dakar, Senegal (SN)
The defence of the northern end of the island had been served by small open batteries, but between 1852 and 1856 these were replaced by a circular masonry fort armed with 10x16cm RMLs mounted en barbette and named Fort d'Estrées after the admiral who had captured Gorée from the Dutch in 1677.
