Freelan Oscar Stanley's House(former)

Freelan Oscar Stanley's House(former)

Estes Park, Colorado (CO), US
This was the home of F.O. Stanley, co-founder of the Stanley Motor Carriage Company and founder of the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. In 1903, Stanley's doctor suggested he moved west to Colorado from his home in Maine, due to Freelan having problems with tuberculosis. Upon spending the summer at a cabin in Estes Park, Freelan's wife, Flora Stanley, wanted a home like the one they had left behind in Maine. Built in 1904, the Stanley residence now features 6 bedrooms, 6.25 bathrooms, and 5,342 square feet of living space. It is currently valued at $1.002 million dollars.

Construction of the Stanley hotel began in 1907 a half mile east of their home. One of the reasons the hotel was built was because Flora wanted more room for her parties, as their home wasn't big enough for her. Completed in 1909, the Stanley Hotel was a popular summer resort. Freelan O. Stanley died on October 3rd, 1940 in Newton, Massachusetts, of natural causes at the age of 91.
