Freeport Raceway Park

Freeport Raceway Park

Freeport, Illinois (IL), US
Auto racing on this 1/2 mile clay oval track dates back to the 1930's. Several classes of late models, modifieds, and street stock cars race here on Saturday nights. The smaller 1/3 mile track has been used in the past.

The track held its final race in September 2011. The track's owners were behind on paying property taxes and mortgage payments and were served with a foreclosure lawsuit. The grandstands and structures have been removed, and the track surface appears to be used for growing crops in the current Google Street View.

In my one and only visit to the track in 2005, an IRA sprint car event was cancelled early in the evening due to safety concerns about the track's poorly structured fencing.
