Oldest parts of the Glamis Castle are from the 15th century and the house reached its present form in the 18th century. It has been the family home of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since 1372 and it was the childhood home of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, best known as the Queen Mother, and her daughter Princess Margaret was born there.

There are many legends and tales associated with the Glamish Castle of which the best known is the story of Monster of Glamis who was said to be a deformed member of the Bowes-Lyon family, kept in seclusion in the castle.
