The name Glas Dowr is based on the Welsh language and means "Blue Water." The company Bluewater names all of its ships with the name "Blue Water" each in a different language.

The ’Glas Dowr’ is the fifth Bluewater designed, built, owned and operated FPSO first commencing operation in August 1997 on the Durward & Dauntless Field for Amerada Hess.
