Gorm the Old was a Danish Viking King who resided at Jelling from around 938 to his death around 958.
He was first buried in the northern mound but later moved to the church.
1978-1979 excavations took place and a skeleton was found. The age of the skeleton was identical to the year of the death.
In the year 2000 the King was reburied in the church attended by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.
The golden mark is the spot where his grave is.
