Greg Goodman is the son of Harold Goodman, who founded Goodman Global, which was the second-largest unit manufacturer of residential and light commercial heating and air conditioning products in the United States and the world's largest privately held heating and air conditioning manufacturer when it was sold to Apollo Management in 2003 for $1.4 billion. Harold was listed as one of Texas' 100 richest men in the 1990s and was considered one of that state's top horse breeders.

His brother is John Goodman. He is famous as the founder and owner of the International Polo Club Palm Beach, a world class facility that hosts numerous tournaments including the U.S. Open Polo Championship. In 2010 he was involved in a crash when his black Bentley collided with a Hyundai driven by a 23-year old, Scott Patrick Wilson. Wilson's car ended up overturned in a canal and he was killed.
