Highgate is a cemetery in north London. The cemetery is designated as a Grade 1 on the Historic England Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England. The cemetery is divided into two sections - west and east - that are both open to the public with guided tours. The cemetery is thought to have 170.000 people buried here with 53.000 graves. It is known for the numerous amount of notable people buried here and also the fact that it is a nature reserve. The cemetery opened in 1839.
