This massive complex is an example of mountaintop mining. According to the Arch Coal web page, this mine produced 4.6 million tons of coal in 2004, which is easy to believe when you look at large mound of coal located at: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=38.111143,-81.869109&spn=0.009764,0.015044&t=k&hl=en.
