Introduced in 2001 for the 2002 model year to replace the Trooper as its flagship vehicle, the Axiom was Isuzu's answer to car-based SUVs like the Toyota Highlander. Its name was derived from the word that means "general truth", at a naming contest won by Dr. Hakan Urey from Redmond, Washington, and was only sold in the U.S. and Costa Rican markets. However, because of the Axiom's polarizing design, and how it remained on a truck platform, it wasn't a strong seller and was discontinued after 2004.
