He is a past member of the board of directors of the American Bankers Association and of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, where he served as chair of the finance committee. He is a director of St. Mary's Hospital and the Palace Theater, both of Waterbury, Connecticut, and was a director of MacDermid, Incorporated (NYSE:MRD) until it was sold in June 2007. Mr. Smith is Chairman of the Executive Committee. Mr. Smith holds an AB degree from Dartmouth College.
