Sutton is the founder of Wharton Properties which owns 120 properties throughout NYC, among his tenants: Armani, Polo Ralph Lauren, Valentino, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Abercrombie & Fitch etc.

As of June 2014, Forbes ranks him among the 230 richest Americans, worth an estimated $2.7 billion.
