John Goodman's house

John B. Goodman is a billionaire and the former owner and chairman of Goodman Global Holdings, a Houston based air-conditioning giant. He sold the company in 2004 for approximately $1.43 billion. His father, Herbert, built it up to become the largest privately held air conditioning and heating equipment manufacturer in the United States; its market-leading brands included Goodman, Amana Heating and Air Conditioning, GmC, Janitrol and QuietFlex.

He is also famous as the founder and owner of the International Polo Club Palm Beach, a world class facility that hosts numerous tournaments including the U.S. Open Polo Championship. Its first game, in 2004 featured Goodman's friend, actor Tommy Lee Jones' team, San Saba, and a helicopter that landed on the field at halftime to dole out free champagne for the fans. The 120 acre club grounds include the stadium and fields that are to the southeast of the house. Goodman, through Isla Carroll, the polo team that he founded and plays on, owns this house and the farms on which it sits, as well as much of the surrounding land. He has spent many millions making the team, which is named after his wife, an elite team with elite and famous players like Memo Gracida, Nacho Figueras, Owen Rinehart, and Todd Offen.

On February 12, 2010 he was involved in a crash just south of the polo club at 120th Avenue and Lake Worth Road. The black Bentley he was driving collided with a Hyundai driven by a 23-year old University of Central Florida graduate, Scott Patrick Wilson, who was minutes away from home after a 3 hour trip from where he was living, Orlando. Wilson's car ended up overturned in a canal and he was killed. It is believed that Goodman ran a stop sign and that alcohol may be involved. Goodman has hired well-known criminal defense attorney, Roy Black. Black is known for his gaining an acquittal, in 1991, of William Kennedy Smith on charges of rape and for his representation of conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh on charges related to Limbaugh's alleged misuse of the prescription painkiller, OxyContin.
