McEnee's son, John Jr. is a former QB for the University of Connecticut Huskies football team. He was Donald Trump's personal assistant until his firing on 31 MAR 2018, due to an "unspecified security issue", as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
His other son, Zac, is a personal assistant to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
