Kajieme Powell Shooting Location

On August 19th 2014 25 year old Kajieme Powell was fatally shot by St. Louis Police Officers at this location. Powell had allegedly stolen 2 sodas from a nearby convenience store. As local police arrived on the scene, Powell challenged the police to shoot him. Witnesses stated that he was carrying a knife although it is not visible in the cell phone video and Powell had his arms at his side throughout the incident recorded in the video. The video shows Powell walking towards the police in an aggressive manor and police opened fire.

This shooting occurred less than 20 seconds after the arrival of the responding police. This incident happened about 4 miles from the location where an unarmed 18 year old Michael Brown was fatally shot by police in nearby Ferguson a few days earlier. Both the recent Michael Brown and Kajieme Powell shootings involved white St. Louis Police officers fatally shooting young black men involved in altercations with local law enforcement officers after both allegedly stole items from nearby convenience stores. Both locations are part of the greater St. Louis Missouri area.
