This cairn is dedicated to the early settlers who homesteaded in the Komarno District before the turn of the century.
Through perseverance and fortitude common to these hardy pioneers they overcame the hardships of a hostile environment and laid the roots from which our community has grown.
The village of Komarno was founded on 1904 bu settlers from the Ukraine. In 1907 the first store was opened and the railway began operating. In 1909 the first school was built and 1910 saw the Roman Catholic Church open its doors. In 1919 a graded road was completed from the south and the pioneer era came to an end.
Since these early beginnings, Komarno has become a progressive agricultural community growing from its rich cultural background.
