Leading French House of Culture, created through the goodwill of André Malraux, Le Volcan (“The Volcano”) is housed in a characteristic and avant-garde building constructed in 1982 by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.

A national Stage since 1992, it is nowadays one of the five main French stages benefiting from this label, and it offers a rich and eclectic programming.

Besides its two large auditoriums, Le Volcan has an "Art & Essai, Recherche" (experimental) movie theater (L’Eden) which is popularly favored by Le Havre inhabitants given the quality of its programming and the numerous discussion forums which are organized with great names of the cinema.
