Ferenc Puskás (4/2/1927 - 11/17/2006) was a Hungarian football player, widely considered one of the greatest players of all time. Puskás played striker for Budapest Honvéd FC and Real Madrid scoring 500 plus goals in 500 plus matches for club football. Internationally Puskás scored 85 goals in 84 matches for Hungary from 1945-1956. He led Hungary to the 1954 World Cup Final, won Olympic gold in 1952, won three European Cups, 10 national championships between Hungary and Spain and 8 scoring titles.

Puskás managed 13 teams from 1967 to 1993 earning a European Cup runner up with Panathinaikos in 1971.

Puskás died due to pneumonia while dealing with Alzheimers complications. He was honored with a state funeral in Hungary and buried under the dome of St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest.

The FIFA Puskás Award is named after him and is given to the player with the most beautiful goal over the past year.
