This house appears in the movie "Eight Million Ways to Die," with Jeff Bridges, as the house of Angel Maldanado. It also appears as Fielding Chase's house, in the Columbo episode "Butterfly in Shades of Gray"

It says at the end of the article that Larry Ellison bought it for 22 million. Also, on an interesting side note; the estate was used as almost the third guest star (after William Shatner) in a 1994 episode called "Butterflies in shades of gray" where Lt Columbo went on and on what a great house it was, then he and Shatner ' s character Fielding Chase, rode the little tram up the hill together :)

I had a chance to take a tour of the first house on the left on Cross Creek when it belonged to B Wayne Hughes. It was supposedly worth $40 million in the mid 90’s. The master bath had a safe room, their was a house for the horse caretaker, a guest house and the main house. It was pretty cool but not as big as I thought it would be. You could see the Castle House very clearly from the back.

I was the roofing Contractor on this house when originally built in 1984-1986. Burton A. Burton the founder of Casablanca Ceiling Fans was the original owner. Al Homer Construction was the G.C. The house was not even finished when 8 Million Ways To Die was filmed. The roof was a lot of hard work and tough access, so I'm sad to see the 2 pc. clay tile roof, imported from Mexico and could last for hundreds of years, be replaced because Mr. Ellison wanted a different look. The funicular is gone to. Above the garage, there are 2 apartments for guests or staff and below are 4 double deep parking stalls, one with a hydraulic car hoist. A tunnel from the garage leads underneath the drive court to the lower level of the main house. The elevator has 5 stops from the lowest level Gym ending at the Master suite entry. It was an impressive house in the 80's but I'm sure it will be much nicer when Mr. Ellison finishes it. I wonder if he removed those beautiful Hawaiian Koa wood floors? G.L.

I recently watched the Columbo episode "Butterflies in shades of gray" that featured this house with its funicular. I noticed the funicular prominently featured the word "Abba" on its sides.

Does anyone know why?

Why does the side of the Tram say ABBA? Is it after the band in the USA named ABBA- ?...weird???
