Early in his career, Ly worked in private equity for Citicorp and the Vietnam Fund Ltd. He led investments efforts in Asia Commercial Bank, Vietnam’s largest private bank, and in the Ana Mandara Resort, which Architectural Digest featured in its November 2001 issue.

Ly also worked in investment banking, focusing on international mergers and acquisitions, for Smith Barney Inc. and for the Chase Manhattan Bank, NA in their New York City and Hong Kong offices. Ly is a term member in the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School and Princeton University.

Olmsted's father is an investment adviser and step-mother is a descendant of Fredrick Law Olmsted, who's name she decided to take.

They own another home in Presidio Heights in San Francisco.
