Prior to 1998, Andretti lived in a home on Market Street in Nazareth that he had built in 1968. After his Indianapolis 500 victory in 1969, the street was renamed Victory Lane. That house was most recently listed for sale around $500,000 and was destroyed in a fire in 2019.

Mario Andretti was born in Montona, Istria—now a part of Croatia, but at the time in the Kingdom of Italy. Following World War II, his family lived in refugee camps in Northern Italy for several years before securing a visa to emigrate to the United States. They settled in Nazareth in 1955 and Andretti started racing with a falsified drivers license in 1959.
Andretti’s wife, Dee Ann, passed away in 2018. They had been married since 1961. He has two sons, Michael and Jeff who both became auto racers. His grandson Marco is also an IndyCar driver and lives next door to Mario in a house he bought from his father, Michael.
