Florence Guggenheim was the daughter-in-law of Meyer Guggenheim, the patriarch of what became known as the Guggenheim family, and the wife of Daniel Guggenheim, who became head of the family after his father's death.

"Mille Fleurs" was built around 1932 for Florence, she moved here from "Hempstead House" following the death of her husband Daniel in 1930.
