In 1970, the National Lampoon humor magazine was launched. It grew in success, eventually branching out into other forms of media, including books, records, and films. Some of National Lampoon's most successful films were Animal House, Vacation (and its sequels), and Van Wilder. The last issue of the magazine was released in November 1998.
In 1991, the company was sold to J2 Communications. In 2002, J2 was sold and renamed National Lampoon, Incorporated.
