The Nauru State House was formerly the residence of the President of Nauru. But ever since the MV Tampa Affair in 2001, where 460 Afghanis attempted to gain asylum in Australia, Australia has given $1M (AUD) a month to Nauru to contain these refugees. To these ends, State House was converted into a refugee camp.
