New Jersey Governor's Beach House

New Jersey Governor's Beach House

Seaside Park, New Jersey (NJ), US
Owned by the State of New Jersey, this beach house is for the use of the Governor of the state.

Over the 2017 July 4th weekend, due to a state government shutdown over budget issues, Governor Chris Christie shut down the entirety of Island Beach State Park, a 3,000 acre beach on the Barnegat Peninsula. After this announcement, it was quickly discovered that Governor Christie and his family intended to use the island and Governor's House over the weekend, soon after Tweeting: "NJ beaches are open in 119 of our our 130 miles of coastline. Come and enjoy them."

News photos clearly showed Governor Christie and his family on the beach, but his spokesman insisted that "He did not get any sun. He had a baseball hat on."
