My guess is that the image was taken from an extreme angle and then post process to normalize it and align it to a 90 degree straight down perspective. Before the normalization the plane probably looked normal but the ground was distorted (like a lot of tilt in GE.) After the 'un-tliting' the ground looked normal but the plane is all distorted.
In the early days of GM all the maps from very far northern latitudes were very distorted. After a database update it was clear that some normalization had been done on the images. They were the same image but stretched and squooshed to be more consistent with a straight down perspective.
I think that's what we are seeing here.

The displacement of the color is due to the difference of speed between the two planes.
The real mystery is : what is the airline company? (Looks like Tyrol airlines)
