Fort Rowner, built 1859-62 is one of the line of five forts built to defend the Western approaches to Portsmouth Harbour. Most of its history it has been used as army barracks. It was used by RAF during the WW2. It became part of HMS Siskin in 1946 and HMS Sultan in 1956. It is now mostly unused although the Navy still maintains a presence.
