This is a man-made island, built up from the dredging of Lake Worth Inlet. The island is a county park and campground. There is a former Coast Guard station (1936-1995) here; it is now the Palm Beach Maritime Museum. There is also a bomb shelter that was secretly built for John F. Kennedy (you can see it when tours are operating).
