Peter R. Kellogg is a billionaire whose father, James, founded a specialist trading firm that became Spear, Leeds & Kellogg. Peter joined the firm in 1967 and built it up to a large marketmaker. He eventually engineered its sale to Goldman Sachs for $6.5 billion 2000, and then put the proceeds into reinsurance outfit IAT. Firm owns large stakes in TRC (environmental engineering), Chattem (over-the-counter health products). In 2009, Forbes listed him as the 97th richest American with a net worth of $3 billion.
