Potvin brothers mural

Potvin brothers mural (StreetView)
Brothers Jean and Denis Potvin are depicted in a mural in their hometown of Ottawa. In the painting, they can be seen as kids playing pond hockey in the background, playing junior hockey as teenagers, and playing with the NHL's New York Islanders in the foreground.

The two defensemen were teammates for one season in junior hockey with the Ottawa 67's and played together in the NHL with the Islanders for eight seasons.

Denis played his entire pro career with the Islanders from 1973-88, scoring 310 goals in 1060 regular season games. When he retired, Denis held the NHL career record for goals and points by a defenseman (since surpassed by Paul Coffey, Ray Bourque, Al Macinnis, Phil Housley, and Larry Murphy). He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991.

Jean played 613 NHL games from 1971-81 with the Islanders, LA Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Cleveland Barons, and Minnesota North Stars.
