Rome, Italy (IT)
The Civil Protection Department is the national authority in Italy responsible for forecasting, prevention and management of exceptional events.

Since 1992, Law No. 225 is placed directly under the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, as a single ministry is not sufficiently competent given the numerous areas which the Department is concerned.

The term civil protection means all facilities and activities put in place by the state to protect the integrity of life, property, settlements and the environment from damage or danger from natural disasters, catastrophes and other natural disasters. The law governing the National System of Civil Protection, is precisely the law 225/92.

Being a "system", it is clear that the Italian Civil Protection is needed, both in peacetime and in emergencies, all existing forces, and a large number of volunteers.
