Indeed, there is ONE thing conspicuously absent, though I'm sure in Jamaica it's not a problem to get...

ya mon, i stay there 2009 feb, very layback place and very local, you meet what i call real jamaicains, not the husslers you meet on the beach, itis in a neigborhood, about 3blocks to the beach way off the beaten path. and the onwer, (denny) real looks out for you, i. had very nice apartment, swimming pool, and pool table. the bar area is the hangout spot. real friendly group people there... and itis 420 friendly, the best time ever in jamaica... PEACE

I, too, stayed at PH in Feb '09 and it is a very mellow spot. Safe, too, and Denny will set you on the right path. It is away from the beach and the higglers. If you like your exercise the walk to the beach is great, otherwise a cab ride is a couple bucks each way. The neighborhood around PH is local so those are the people whom you will meet as you go out for a stroll. If you are an inexperienced traveler this may not be the best spot for you the first time you come to Jamaica. Then again, it may be the best thing that ever happened to you. If you like Las Cabos and Cozumel this may be too rootsy for your tastes; if you have ever complained about having to use local currency, complained when travelling about locals not understanding English, complained about a place not being like home then you should book your vacation to Disneyland right now and never apply for a passport. Your travels should expand your experience.
