The remains of Folkingham airfield are located about 10 miles South-East of Grantham (10 miles North of Bourne) about 2.5 miles West of the A15 between the villages of Folkingham and Aslackby.

The station was open between 1940-1963 and was originally a "decoy" site, before being redeveloped in 1943 as a proper bomber airfield. The station was later turned into Thor missile base in 1959, but finally closed when Thor missiles were taken out of service in 1963.

After its closure, the site was briefly used by the British Motor Racing Company as a test circuit for their cars, but after they moved out most of the site was bulldozed and turned back into farmland.

Today, the Northern part of the old airfield has almost entirely reverted to agriculture, with most of the runways and peri-tracks removed. The Southern part however is mostly intact in this respect and is used as a vehicle store for "Nelson Green & Sons". A gun club also uses part of the old site as a clay pigeon range.

Very few buildings remain, although a few traces can still be found around the old site. Most notably an old B1 hanger and the fire pool pump house on the North-West side. There are several public footpaths that go up to the edge of the old airfield, which allowed me to take some of these photos, however if you're thinking of visiting this site please note that there is no actual public right of way across the airfield itself.
